Description

Fliegergeschichten Magazine #177 Cover Painting Illustration / Aerial action on this cover from early post-war period aviator series for the stories "Destroyed Illusion" by Gerhard S. Ernst and "Hans Grade - a pioneer of German aviation technology" by Gerhard H. Rudolf. Gouache on illustration board with an image area of 9.5" x 13.75". Trimmed edges, pinhole at the top, marginal production tape and notes, with light handling wear. Signed in lower left image area and in Excellent condition. I have a copy of the published magazine.

Pretty cool military hardware on display. The flying fortress may be one of the most fearsome machines of destruction. There is always an accompanying squadron of fighters to fend off the small attacks while it delivers heavy munitions to destroy big targets.

I believe the artist is Karl Stephan. He was one of the three illustrators who left their mark on the German science fiction series in the 1950s and 1960s. The other two were Johnny Bruck, who became famous with Perry Rhodan, and Rudolf Sieber-Lonati, who was also successful on the market with paintings for crime and horror novels in addition to SF. They were active in various genres.
