Description

A hand-illustrated and painted artwork of one of Serenity's two shuttle craft from Joss Whedon's Firefly and Serenity, as drawn and painted by artist John R. Mullaney. This lot comes directly from the renowned cutaways artist and technical illustrator.

This unique artwork was commissioned and published by QMx Collectibles and Universal Studios for The Serenity Architectural Cutaways Poster set exclusively illustrated by the artist and released in 2011. This artwork appeared alongside Inara's shuttle as one of four artworks depicting Serenity's auxiliary craft and was set up from Universal Studios' digital model of the craft as seen in Serenity (2005). Captain Mal's "Browncoat" can be seen hanging in the rear of the cockpit, whilst the actuator for the swing-wing mechanism is based on real world reference of an F14 Tomcat - reference provided by aviation engineer Jim Piszar. Piszar was one of a team of Brain Trust members who advised the artist to ensure technical verisimilitude, accuracy and canon consistency for all the artworks. Selling in the thousands and lauded by lead actor Nathan Fillion, the poster set has long since sold out, making this and the set's other remaining originals especially rare.

The artwork is rendered in pencil, watercolor, ink, and gouache on 300gsm watercolor paper, which is also mounted on foam board. Mullaney has signed and dated the artwork. Dimensions: 10.75" x 15.25" (27.5 cm x 39 cm)
