Recently I stumbled across an eBay seller with a style I quite liked. They were auctioning off this very nice Triplicate Girl sketch card, and I'm always looking for new Legion sketch cards to add to my collection! After winning the auction, I chatted with the seller and learned that she is one C.K. Russell, an indie artist who's done some dabbling in the comic art world. There are a fair few other pieces by her on CAF, and there's about to be several more, because I love her work and I love getting to start a new sketch card gallery!

First off, I love the composition of this card, with each triplicate posed so you can see that their uniforms are unique from each other. Speaking of unique (and to get very technical about the history of Legion costumes), Triplicate Girl's design in this card is actually not one she ever sported in the comics. Her costume is mostly patterned after the one she wears as Duplicate Damsel (but the colours of that costume didn't split when she triplicated), while her hairstyle is most reminiscent of the Triplicate Girl from the 2006 Legion animated series (though in that series she had white hair instead of brown). I could wax poetic about the differences all day, but the point is that I really enjoy seeing an artist's unique take on a character, and I think C.K. knocked it out of the park with this one! Something else I like about her style is that she uses a white pencil crayon to provide additional highlights, which gives her characters a softer, almost glowy air. Stay tuned for more of these - I'm sure I'll end up with a whole Legion's worth, eventually!

Always great to discover a new (or at least "new to you") artist you have an affinity for! Looks like there are quite a few of her sketch cards on CAF to check out. You already mentioned it but those white pencil crayon highlights def enhance the overall effect and lighting of the triplicate figures. a new Legion set begins!

Looks like she's checking out her new dress in the trifold mirror. The poses of the other two are keyed into the center image.
