DescriptionI had heard the rumor that some dealer had colored a number of black-and-white Frank King Sunday originals, which appears to be true since some early Sundays, which are now gloriously watercolored, can be found illustrated in pre-1980 comic art catlalogues (such as Russ Cochran's Graphic Gallery) at a time, long after Frank King's death, when they were still uncolored. Fortunately, the earliest photograph known to me of this piece, from Graphic Gallery No. 11 (1978), shows that this Sunday was already watercolored. Since the cosmetic watercoloring of King originals apparently began many years later, it is safe to say that this original was actually watercolored by Frank King himself. I especially like the images of Skeezix and a wind-blowing Walt in the topper, which are very clever imitations of what one sees on ancient maps.Social/Sharing |

No one has commented on this masterpiece in 5 years!!!?? A stunning, classic piece, easily one of the best ever. Congrats on owning such a major piece!!

Wow ! What a beautiful early Gasoline in color ! It must be one of the earliest ?
