Description

My only Toth. And the only one I'll ever really need. There couldn't be a more perfect one for my collection. Alex Toth would eventually do only two stories before quitting the series over content. These pages just never show up...was a very lucky day when this one did!

Awesome page!  I wasn't surprised Toth quickly decided to move on from Torpedo given the sensibilites of the writer, but his work on the start of the series is classy and gorgeous!  His B&W design is so good

Fantastic page.  I thought these were all in one collection but obviuosly not.  Great find.  Having seen a number of these live, I can imagine how great this looks in person.

Initials "JB"? My understanding is that he has several, but not all. Would love to see them!

Sweet. I am not sure I've seen one of these before. I like the symmetry of the moll's face in the 2nd and 6th panels and how it works perfectly with the noir-style narration. Also, in the second tier, I like the clever way he drew a fully detailed Luca with a stark black background in the left panel and then switched to Luca in complete silhouette in the next.

Thanks Mark! BTW, there looks to be another member now: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/alex-toth-creepy-32-spanish-publication-story-page-5-torpedo-original-art-toutain-editor-1982-/a/121822-11164.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515

Only found out about this after the fact, when another collector sent me the link. Only public offering of one of these pages that I can recall. Did quite well, considering it got buried in a Sunday auction!

ha yeah, I saw that auction as it was happening. Started off so cheap and went up to 9k or something, so I took some solace in the fact that I could have never afforded it haha After someone was looking at the Hi-Res scans on the Toth FB page, they noticed that the blacked out panel actually had a drawing underneath and Alex blacked it out either because he didn't like the result or the content. I don't know if you'd noticed anything on yours, but in the light when you look at the blacks on the page, you can see linework underneath where he drew all the detail and then filled it in with solid blacks after. Not a huge surprise, but still really cool to see!

Wow, this is a supremely awesome page. My jaw literally just dropped. I thought i was familiar with most of Toth's body of work, but not this. I've got to find his two issues of this book now.

Thank you for posting this page, and congrats on such a sweet, sweet find!

Beautiful and classic Toth storytelling--and a classic representation of the character.  It's quite the perfect page!

I missed out on this page twice - first when it hit ebay 15 or so years ago and I was the underbidder, and then second when that winning bidder resold it a couple years ago.  Oh well - it went to the right place
