Description

I love this page. It's from the final issue of the Nightwing solo comic, and has Dick returning to Gotham for good, following Bruce's apparent death.

It's also the night which is the anniversary of Bruce's parents being murdered in Crime Alley, a night Batman usually spent patrolling the street, and laying two roses at the spot they died. Dick doesn't have the same emotional connection to the place, but wants to honour Bruce's memory in his own way. So just as Robin brought, for wont of a better term, light, to the grimness of Batman, so he does here; Batman guards the shadows, but Nightwing brings the light... even that means just making sure the streetlights are all fixed so people can walk more safely.

Kudos to Peter J. Tomasi, Don Kramer on pencils and Jay Leisten on inks for a lovely subtle way of emphasising Dick's different approach to his mentors mission.
