DescriptionEarlier this year, I got an unexpected e-mail from the artist, Stephen Bissette. Especially surprising since we had never communicated before. He was reaching out to me because he had gotten my contact e-mail from John Totleben. Now John Totleben was someone with whom I HAD exchanged e-mails in the past...over 10 years ago! At the time, he maintained his own website, and had some beautiful art that he was selling on it (those of you around back then will remember). Except that by the time I had contacted him, he had decided to keep the pages that I wanted. No problem, I wished him well and didn't bother him about it again.Well, incredibly, Totleben hung onto my e-mail. So when Bissette asked him if he knew any serious collectors he could approach about a SWAMP THING page he had kept all these years, Totleben passed mine along as someone who wouldn't give him too much grief! Here it is, page 19 from arguably the greatest single issue of all time, THE SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING #21. Alan Moore, Stephen Bissette, and John Totleben's game-changing "The Anatomy Lesson". Many thanks to Stephen Bissette (and to John Totleben for, fittingly, providing the crucial assist!). Social/Sharing |

Felix, this is a spectacularly beautiful and frightening Bissette/Totleben Swamp Thing page. Moore's run on ST still holds up today as some of the best comics ever created.

You are, once again, touched by the OA angels...what a great story of how you were offered the piece. Good people in the hobby, having good things happen to them, is a story I never get tired of hearing. Congrats!!

The slow buildup to this moment – the poetic musings on rain, the methodical, bloodless autopsy, the interplay between Sunderland and the seemingly haplass Woodrue, Woodrue's cryptic musings ("And will there be blood? I like to imagine so. ") made that image of the now violently insane Swamp Thing in the first panel all the more impactful and memorable. And, artistically, wow! Bissette and Totleben just clicked from the very start. What a page!

Ah, so you're the other guy. I'll have a similar tale to tell down the road. Glad to see that it wound up here.
Fantastic page from one of the all time great series featuring titanic talents in their primes!

The brilliance in the combination of writing and illustrative quality is immeasurable. This issue, along with the following 19 or so issues, is by leaps and bounds better than anythng else they ever did together, and likewise for anything else Moore did with any other artists. For sheer terror, this even surpassed any EC horror story I remember reading. A new superlative should be invented to describe this art and story. Congratulations, Felix, well done!

I love Bissette artwork. The panel layouts are a story in and of themselves he elicits such beautiful artistry of the macabre.
