Description

A little late, but posting this in honor of Alan Moore's 70th birthday. Discovering his SWAMP THING in the early '80s changed everything for me. Shaped my tastes to this day. IMO, as important a title as any in the development of the comics medium.

Acquired this many years ago straight from Stephen Bissette's wall. Really enjoyed his stories around this cover. It was the first one where they had total creative freedom and they went all out, including incorporating the title logo into the art. As anyone who has ever looked for one knows, covers from this seminal run are difficult to find. Thank you, Mr. Bissette and Mr. Totleben!

My first ever issue of ST, so this hits that sweet spot for me of pure nostalgia AND being a fantastic piece of comic art.

I love the monkey king storyline feat. Etrigan; one of my favorite parts in the whole run. What a magnificent cover Felix!

Mindblowingly cool! I loved Stephen Bissette and Jonn Totleben's run on Saga of Swamp Thing. Every issue was filled with moments like this one--Just jawdropping images that seared their way into your brain. The creature Swampy is battling here is truly frightening. Love the hand-lettered title branded into the skin of the creature.  Fabulous cover. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, beyond awesome! I could spend all day looking at this. The art is truly fearsome. Bissette and Totleben's second commanding cover cannot miss. (Thank you for sharing!)

Amazing cover. Strong theme, big characters, and it hits me right in the nostalgia spot; making for a perfect oa trifecta!

It makes me wonder what other trinkets you have laying around in the closet!

The British invasion starts here!  An introduction to Alan Moore for many American readers as he, Bissette, and Totleben raised the benchmark in writing and artwork for all comics.  If you read it as a kid, it made you feel like an adult to have some this sophisticated in your pull list.

Swampy, Abby, ghouls, and luscious Totleben inks! That logo is just the icing on the torso - what more could anyone want? Congrats on this beauty!

Arguably the best and definitely one of the best covers of the entire run, the first half of which I still love more than anything else Moore has ever written. An absolute classic in every sense of the word. Congratulations!

What a game changer Swamp Thing was.  #34 was the first time I fully appreciated the potential of the medium and how it could do things that books and film couldn't.  Visual poetery.  Moore's the Swamp Thing would not have come to life without the art of John and Steve...it was destiny that they worked together on this project.  This still holds up on rereading and I'd put it up there with both my favorite and the most important of Moore's works.

You took this straight from Stephen Bissette's wall, while he was telling you stories and he still has not noticed it gone? You master of misdirection, illusion and possibly hypnotism, you.Lol. That reading of your description is unlikely. Great cover.

Never read much Swamp Thing but I understand its significance in our hobby; and even without as much familiarity as others, I can recognize that this is a spectacular piece of comic art.  Love all the organic detail, the integration of the title into the art, and of course the little appearance of (I assume) the Demon on the rootop.
