DescriptionAfter all these years, I have finally come around to posting one of my pages from Captain Marvel 33. This is the page where Captain Marvel destroys the Cosmic Cube in order to complete the first defeat for Thanos. As many know, Thanos created, developed, and had many schemes to appease Death in his desire to conquer the universe. Our intrepid heroes have always saved the day, and this was the page that Starlin created to show that one of his greatest villains always had an Achilles heel in his execution to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Steve Englehart scripted the story from Starlin's plot. What a doozy this issue was to complete this long story arc. This page also happened to be one of my first purchases off eBay in 1999. It was an easy purchase from Ed Hodder, and it showed me just how powerful eBay was as a medium to buy original comic art from other collectors. Ed has a CAF gallery, but he has not updated it since 2004. I was fortunate in that Scott Dunbier selected this page as one of the items that he placed in his Starlin cosmic IDW published edition. I am not sure how many images that he received from this issue, but it does not appear that he had many. He had three pages represented in the Starlin edition. There is a dearth of pages from this book available in the public view (Rob Frey counted seven total that he has seen), and I would love to see more. Social/Sharing |

Mark, thanks much for the comment. Hey - you beat/outbid me on several occasions as well. While you and I were serious competitors back in those early days, I have enjoyed our friendship even more through the years. It was always fun getting to meet the people behind their eBay IDs. I remember confusing you with Mount Levy/Mountain Levy, and I think that I gave you a good chuckle on that one as I had my military blinders on when looking at your eBay ID. Regardless, those were the days when everything was much more affordable......

The hand can be used like a knife, but can it cut the Cosmic Cube?

One of the first comics I bought as a kid was 2 issues before this one, CM #31 and read the rest of this epic story years later! This tale was the beginning of Starlin's Cosmic Odyssey featuring Thanos which years later evolved into the Infinity Gauntlet storyline. The Marvel movies owe a lot to these early stories, and this page is an Amazing example! Great purchase Philip!

Insane! What a crazy cool page! Love how the world turns upside down in the first two panels and then Captain Marvel himself gets hit by the effects of the Cosmic Cube! Starlin really put a lot into this one page! Amazing!
