I didn't remember this cover all that well, which, looking at it now, I thought was strange. So I scooted on over to GCD to see it in color and refresh my memory. I guess it was the bright blue background which kind of cut down on the contrast and lessened the drama. Normally, if you have a lot of bright-colored heroes running around, color is a big plus, but this proves the exception. It's great when you can "rediscover" a great cover like this on CAF.

When I first started collecting DC Comics in 1989, I found this issue in a 40 cent discount bin. I knew I had to have it thanks to this amazing cover. I was still learning the basics of DC's Golden Age heroes and Earth-2 at the time, but I knew I wanted to learn more after reading this issue (it would take me a few more months to track down the second part of this story). If I had to make a list of my all-time favorite comic book covers, this would be on it.

I loved the All star Squadron almost as much as the Legion. The issues when the heavy hitters of Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman appeared were such a special treat

Absolutely spectacular piece! Buckler's design is as dynamic and powerful as you could wish for, and Ordway's inking is flawless. Great combo!

Classic DC cover with all the major DC Golden Age heroes! And by Buckler and Ordway, too! You're right, Brian, it doesn't get much better than this.

I've never seen this one before. Buckler and Ordway drawing Shazam in the thrall of Hitler (DC Database) delivering a beat down on Superman!
