DescriptionUPDATE: LEFT THE COLLECTION IN 2015. A pinup by Arthur Adams - at last. Something I've been wishing to add to my collection for almost as long as I've been collecting art (started in 1986). Either never had the funds or never found the "right" piece, although more often than not it was the funding that got in the way. My wife recently gave me a chunk of money to buy some art with, and while trying to decide what to purchase I happened to wander by Fog City Art Exchange, Adams' official rep. Art has recently been doing a lot of monster pinups, mostly of 1970s Marvel monsters - considering I was around 9 or so when Marvel was really cranking out stuff like Tomb of Dracula and Ghost Rider, I was just crazy into all of it. I was shocked to see that there were two new werewolf illos posted there, and even though they were tagged as "Wolfman", I *knew* they were of Jack Russell (kinda funny, innit?) a.k.a. Werewolf By Night! And they were for sale for the exact amount of money Dennisse had given me - Fate, allow me to introduce myself! Dennisse wasn't terribly thrilled that I spent all that money on one piece, but she's starting to realize just how big a deal this one pinup is to me. Coincidentally, her late uncle, Frank Chiaramonte, used to ink Mike Ploog early on in the WBN run. No scan can ever do this artwork justice, just thousands upon thousands of inklines present with a little bit of whiteout for some of the fur effects. I'm still pinching myself to make sure I'm not dreaming every time I look at it! Pencils and ink on 9"x12" Bristol. NOTE: This piece will be published as a cover (can't remember if it's front or back) for an upcoming BACK ISSUE by TwoMorrows!Social/Sharing |

Unbelievable is right, at least to me - I *never* thought I'd be able to score one of these! I *still* can't believe it's MINE, ALL MINE!!! ::ahem:: Thanks for the comments Terry!

I agree wholeheartedly, Jeff - Art has an amazing talent for textures and making his monsters/critters "feel" right. He has more talent than should be allowed by law ;P Thanks for the comments Jeff!

I was fortunate to get the other Werewolf that Art Adams did from Fog City and I couldn't agree with you more. As for as the price, given the detail and quality of the work Adam put into these, I think we got a very good deal. Brian.

Brian, I agree, great deal - probably less than a penny per stroke on this one. I can't imagine how long it must have taken to put in all that detail!

Yep, Michael Eury (EIC, I believe, at TwoMorrows) approached me about using it months ago for that particular issue, then he directly got in touch with Arthur and got his okay to print it, so voila, I now own a published cover! Thanks for looking!

Silly me! I just got my comp copy of BACK ISSUE #15 from the editor and I mistakenly thought that it was Brian's piece that made the cover. Of course I was wrong, but Brian was nice enough to email me and set me straight. So my apologies to both of you gentlemen and a hearty congratulations to you Roland on this very nice piece! That's quite a wife you've got there! By the way, I can't believe you've been collecting since 1986 and only now getting your first Adams! Come on now, CATCH UP! =)

Heh! Yep, quite a wife indeed :D And I know, hard to believe it's taken me so long to get an Adams piece - I've only met him once at a con and he wasn't sketching, and it's not like his stuff is inexpensive by any means ;) I'm just glad I stumbled across the right piece when I had exactly the right amount of money all at the right time. Thanks Eric!
