DescriptionMarvel Comics released a magazine-styled comic series in 1989 titled Freddy Krueger’s A Nightmare on Elm Street. The first adaptation/spinoff of Freddy in comics. This short-lived, two issue, black and white series followed Dr. Juliann Quinn as she explores Freddy’s past and tries to help targeted teen Allison overcome the infamous dream-stalker. Steve Gerber wrote Freddy Krueger’s A Nightmare on Elm Street with art by Rich Buckler, Tony DeZuniga, and Alfredo Alcala. Covers were by Joe Jusko and back cover for this issue #2 by Sam Kieth, his first Marvel Comics job. Marvel Comics canceled this series after its second issue, fearing pressure from anti-violence advocate groups. Joe Jusko had finished painting the cover for issue #3 and Sam Kieth drew the first few pages for a story by Steve Gerber, before it was cancelled. Story was never finished or published. This art was also published as the back covers of Marvel Comics issues as an ad that ran in 1989. I believe this art was originally intended for the cover of the unreleased issue #4 as labeled on the art. I added a photo of the unfinished and unreleased pages the Sam also created for this series to show what could have been. I’m looking for any of the Joe Jusko covers if anyone knows the whereabouts.Social/Sharing |

Thanks Matthew! It's always a pleasure to acquire a piece you've been hunting down for years. Especially one that's been lost upon time.

Great piece. If this art was from '88 or '89, it looks like Sam was experimenting with different techniques. Would love to have seen what his interior pages would have looked like.

Those pages are beautiful. The only unpublished pages I'd be interested in owning!
