DescriptionMike Mignola had/has such a great design sense. Truth be told I stopped reading the Defenders because the interior art was not to my tastes but I still bought the issues as the covers were so great! This one was no exception. Nowlan's inks, as always, are perfect over these pencils. Here is HA's write up:Mike Mignola and Kevin Nowlan (as Larry Mundelo) The Defenders #139 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1985). The Defenders (Valkyrie, Gargoyle, Beast, Iceman, Angel, and Moondragon) are joined by Red Wolf as the heroes face a frightening group of trolls. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 9.75" x 15". Slight toning, residue staining from missing logo and header paste-ups, staple holes at the top, whiteout corrections, with foxing/spot staining and handling wear. Signed by the art team in the lower right image area and then Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter. In Very Good condition. Social/Sharing |

Oh cool, you got this one. Was actually thinking of trying to get it back, but just the thought of paying for something twice (and paying even more the second time around) was more than I could talk myself into. When I bought this, I'm pretty sure I bought it for the Nowlan inks. I mean, honestly, when you look at it, there's not much that identifies as Mignola except for maybe that shadow figured in the left center. But the piece definitely screams Nowlan. Can't even remember why I let it go in the first place, but yeah, I probably should've just hung on to it. Anyway, glad it found a good home. Enjoy it, it's a really fun and interesting piece.

Had to piggyback on this post. I think I got this piece from Eric back in the day and it has been with me for years until I recently consigned it to Heritage. Glad it has a good home too.

Leave it to Nowlan to ink up this very nice gem in the later part of the series! The combo of early Mignola and early Nowlan gave this title a energetic boost of fantasy edge with many of their characters coming from magic and myth!
