DescriptionPublished 1974The Loneliest Man in the Universe written by Mart Pasko A tale from the world of Krypton Superman relates to Supergirl, the story of Nam-Ek. To create his immortality serum, Nam-Ek kills two healing beasts, which makes him a wanted criminal, so he hides out until his crime is forgotten. Desiring companionship, he then tries to rejoin society but the serum has the side effect of making into a grotesque, foul smelling beast and people are too scared and horrified by him. He searches for a cure but Krypton explodes before he can cure himself, leaving him stranded in the space that used to be Krypton. Social/Sharing |

Ernie, draws Mr. Lonely
I have no Ernie art I own
Nam-Ek's lonely, He's Mr. Smelly
Wish I had someone to cure criminal
He's a Chua, mistyped it Chua
A name from home though no wish of his own
That Nam-Ek's lonely, He's Mr. Lonely
And drifts out as wood, blown up home
Drifter, he lives forever
It gets no better in this grail
He's been on Krypton, yeah, on Krypton
Oh, how I wonder how is it he failed
Now find a Super, and girly Super
A day explode though no wish of his own
That Nam-Ek's lonely, He's Mr. Lonely
I wish that he would go back home

It's great to see Chua's blue pencils survive under the inks. Wow, another dark story. DC in the early Bronze really did have a distinct tone.

So, Nam-Ek has the top of a giant bell pepper on his head? Wild! So cool to see a Chan Superman story. I clearly remember him doing many Batmanand/or Detective issues, but if I ever knew he had drawn any superman stories within the Superman or Action titles, I've since forgotten. What a great Supergirl image, too!

Very cool Superman page. I've always enjoyed Ernie Chan's work on Superman and this is a gorgeous example of his work. Love that opening scene of Krypton exploding. And the idea of this story--that one man survived the explosion because he was immortal but was stranded to drift forever in space--is haunting. Love that final panel of Supergirl marching away from Superman bothered by his story. Great pick-up!

if you ever want to sell or trade for this page let me know it was my first comic and this story was given to me when my grandfather was in the hospital with stomach cancer. the story talks about how a guy wanted to live forever but the price was terrible, this helped me understand that while I wanted my grandfather to live forever I knew that there would be a price and it gave me peace
