DescriptionI took my 4 year old son, Michael to the SuperMega Convention on August, 19 2006. It’s a real nice show that has a little bit of everything. TV Nostalgia, Sci-fi, Toys and most importantly COMICS! As we were walking around we came across Buzz & Mike Bair hanging out with my buddy Lambert (It was his birthday; HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAMB!) I introduced them to my little guy and explained to him that Buzz & Mike drew comics. My son very innocently asked if Buzz would draw something for him. Now the reason Buzz is at the convention is to do commissions (and meet fans); he gets paid a nice amount for his sketches and rightfully so because he is an absolutely amazing artist who commissions are more like paintings (if you don’t have something from Buzz you should head over to www.justbuzz.com and get one; you won’t regret it!). So Buzz is in the middle of a beautiful Power Girl piece….but as soon as my son asks for a drawing Buzz immediately stops and asks my son what he would like him to draw. My son, standing there in his Superman T-shirt, Superman Sneakers, holding the Superman bank that I had just bought him, not surprisingly asks Buzz to draw a Superman! He loves Superman and I couldn’t be prouder of my boy! Anyhow, Buzz immediately gets to work on Michael’s Superman…now this was for a 4 year old….Buzz could have easily banged out something quick that Michael would have been happy with; Instead he drew this absolutely wonderful Superman sketch that any comic art geek (like myself) would have been proud to have in their collection. Buzz finishes the sketch and hands it to my son whose smile practically wraps around his head he’s so happy. He loves his Superman sketch! He thanks Buzz and then looks at me and asks if when we get home he can color it in!!! I nervously tell him that I don’t think that’s really a good idea but Buzz, who had just spent a good amount of time doing the sketch, tells Michael that he should ABSOLUTLEY color the sketch in! That he would love for him to do it and that he would love to see it when it’s done! Soon enough we left the show and Michael would not let go of he new prize possession. He held it the whole way home in the car anxious to get home and color his new masterpiece. And sure enough as soon as we walked in the door he grabbed his crayons and markers, ran right to the kitchen table and got to work! You can check out the before and after pictures in my gallery to see how well he did! He loves to draw and color and do “arts & crabs” as he calls it, so this was a real thrill for him! He loves it so much he put it on the nightstand next to his bed so it’s near him when he sleeps! And he tells everyone how he met Buzz (like Buzz Lightyear he says) and how he drew him a Superman sketch and how Buzz is the best artist ever! Buzz truly is a great artist but he’s also a really great guy! I can’t thank him enough for the sketch….He really made my son’s day (if not his week!) Thanks again Buzz…Like Michael says “You’re the best!”Social/Sharing |

That story just warms my heart. You can't put a price on a memory like that.

He's such a cute kid! But letting him color comic art is a dangerous dangerous precedent! :-P

You let your kid get that close to Buzz? That's brave, ;-) Great story ...

this is very similar to a story i know, one con BUZZ came up to me and had me draw him a sketch,i was told by a close friend that buzz colored it and sleeps next to my sketch also. seriously though, great story! Buzz is a great guy and he treats his fans very well. convention tales like this one makes them all the more memorable for the pros, and the fans obviously.

This doesn't suprise me at all. Ever since I met Buzz a few years ago, He has consistantly proven himself to be one of the classiest personalities one can meet at a convention. Also your little boy is adorable. I'm glad he has a great memeory of the show and a fantastic souviner. He's going to knock their sock off at Show & Tell.
