From what I have seen (without examining every�frame of the film), there is not a single instance where Maleficent appears in the same frame of Sleeping Beauty with either Briar Rose or the Princess, Aurora. They are always separated, if by nothing more than a quick cut from an image of one character to the other. This cel is the one photographed against a background (probably the one formerly in my collection which shows just Aurora and the spinning wheel) to make one of the lobby cards issued for the original release of Sleeping Beauty. The cel is hand inked, and both figures are on a single piece of acetate. This would be rather unusual for a regular production cel, since characters are typically animated on separate cel levels. The colors are unique for images from the spinning wheel scene in that they are the same as used when the characters appear in normal light, i.e., Aurora's dress is blue, not the blue/green that is used from the moment she is first enchanted by Maleficent's spell until the instant after she actually pricks her finger at the villain's command. But the figures are clearly taken from the actual animation drawings that were also used in the actual film for these characters, as they appeared, separately but in sequence, immediately before Aurora pricks her finger on the spinning wheel.
