DescriptionThis one is long overdue to be posted…almost three years, matter of fact. Back in late June of 2018, Frank did an in-store appearance at Torpedo Comics in Las Vegas. I seemed to really connect with him when I expressed my gratitude for having his work enrich my life. He was definitely appreciative of my comments, and he also loved that I’d brought well worn and obviously loved items for him to sign. Creators in general, and Frank specifically, are happier to sign books that have been read and enjoyed, as opposed to ones that are in pristine condition and are only going to be graded, slabbed, and treated as a commodity. So when I handed him my beat-up copy of his Daredevil Omnibus, I turned it to the title page, figuring it would be the best place for him to autograph it. He looks at it, says, “Hmmm, is that really the best place?”, and flips a couple pages further in. Hey, it’s his book, he can sign it wherever he wants. But then he starts making marks with his sharpie that are obviously not his signature, and I realize that he’s decided on his own to start giving me a quick sketch in the book. The issues of Daredevil contained within this massive hardcover are some of my favorite comic books I’ve ever read. Although I didn’t get them when they were coming out, my teenage self was buying them slowly as back issues in the mid-1980’s, and each one I got was poured over, studied, loved...and here was the creative force behind them doing a sketch, with no prompting from me, in the book that collected them all. To say I was happy is to say the Grand Canyon is a small hole in the ground. Many thanks to Frank, and to all the staff at Torpedo Comics in Las Vegas. In addition to having these creators at their store, they run the operations smoothly and efficiently, while at the same time allowing fans to take their time in greeting the people whose work they’ve enjoyed over the years. The joy in Frank’s eyes will never be forgotten, and this generous free sketch will remind me of that every time I see it.Social/Sharing |

I think Mr. Miller knew what he was doing picking to draw over this page in the book.

Ha! Yeah, I was wondering about that as well. Funny thing is, Klaus was originally supposed to be part of this signing as well. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get to meet Klaus eventually.
