DescriptionSooooooo happy to add this to my collection. Adams/Palmer Xmen art has always been special to me (and credit where credit is due, the Roy Thomas stories were way ahead of their time). Anyone reading comics when these issues came out knew that something special, something innovative was happening. No one had seen comics and comic art like this. The words "legend" and "classic" gets thrown around a lot but Neal Adams, Tom Palmer and Roy Thomas created something almost 50 years ago that fits the bill. The fact that I can look at this every day in my collection is just ridiculous. Soooooo happy.Social/Sharing |

X-Men #57-#59 were some of the most intense comics i've ever read. Thomas' writing was fantastic, but the visual realism Adams added just seemed to give everything so much more weight. The facial expressions on this page are EXACTLY what I mean!

A friend has a really awesome panel page which everyone has gone gaga over but never thought someone would actually own the title splash. Wow

And there it is....wow. You know how I feel about this splash Scott. In my opinion, X-men #56-63 and 65 (and in particular the first half of this run) is the absolute APEX of the medium in every respect - writing, inking and penciling. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the absolute best work that Neal ever produced - it was a perfect storm......the right stage of his artistic development + complete creative latitude given how poorly the title was doing. On top of all of this, you happen to have the best splash of the run....unreal. Congrats Scott! Can you tell I like this stuff?

Man, Scott, way to start 2015 with some killer posts! As usual you aren't playing around. This splash is the best from the run - WELL DONE!

You're setting an awfully high bar for the remainder of 2015...not sure how you are going to top these two updates. And, BTW, could not agree with you more about Adams, Palmer & Thomas - great stuff.

Congratulations Scott! Always loved this splash. But then, there really isn't much about Neal's body of work that I don't love. I think I saw this in a mail order catalog decades ago (it might have been Mitch, I'm not sure). By today's standards, it would be ridiculously cheap, but I had only been collection about 2-3 years so it was still a bit steep for me. Glad it ended up in such a good home with a true Adams fan. Congrats again!

My favorite Neal Adams period. Stellar example and a worthy addition to the Scott Williams collection. Something so magical about Palmer's inks made this run truly amazing.

Great layout, stellar inks, Adams's signature face expressions and emotions. Comic art at its best!
