Janson on Sal is always a treat. Janson was Sal's best inker and this page is no exception.
I'm thinking selling this for $650 back in 1991 was a mistake? Nice cover. Nice memories.
I used to own this cover and foolishly sold it a few years back. Beautiful piece. It's definitely pencillecd AND INKED by BWS, not Layton (who inked the interiors). BWS inks is a huge bonus IMHO!
LOL I have a Wrightson Frankenstein as my CAF avatar, and your Cousin Eerie piece is superior to many of the Frankenstein pieces! All brilliant work, but 1974-1978 Wrightson, including and especially the Warren work, is truly peak stuff!
To any Wrightson fans out there, show me a better illustrated, better inked Wrightson piece than this one. Go ahead, I'll wait.
Very nice page indeed, but I'm not the inker on this one. Pretty sure this was the only page of the issue that I did not ink (due to a tight deadline). I believe Art Thibert may have inked this one. Congrats on your new page!
Gorgeous piece, and what strikes me is how you can really see the bones of where Adam Hughes picked up some of his very early style and inspiration. One great influencing another great.
Fun fact-I inked this page uncredited! Surprise!
Brilliant addition to a brilliant collection!
Such an excellent page! I am biased in that I have the splash page just before this one, but I think issue 4 is spectacular! Great get!
Kirby and Wood is an all time great pairing.
Cool page. Nice update. But we're waiting for the BIG drop that we all deserve! lol
Beautiful. Another stellar addition to one of the best collections in all of CAF.
Great page! I seem to recall being offered this page maybe 10-15 years ago, and for some reason not taking it. I'm an idiot.
Beauty! All Electra action page for the win! What a RARE find!
Klaus Janson on Gil Kane is like peanut butter and jelly. Giant Size Defenders, What If #3 and those late 140ish issues of Daredevil are just beautiful. Great page!
Love this, and absolutely adore your entire collection! I started collecting in 1980, and our tastes and interests have huge overlap. Brilliant stuff. Thanks for sharing!
This is some next level cool shit right there.
This makes my day! Great addition to your fabulous collection and is of course right in my wheelhouse as well. '72 is when Wrightson truly began to come into his greatness. This is a PERFECT and PRIME example. Just doesn't get better. Happy for you, with more than a dash of envy as well! lol
Best issue of Buscema/Sinnott FF ever. One of the best issues of FF PERIOD!!! Great pages!
I remeber when as I started inking this thinking to myself "what have I gotten myself into?!". LOL. Congrats
In my opinion, Alex Nino is a true genius. One of a kind, unique artist. Underrated in so many ways. Master with a brush. Everyone who appreciates great comic art should have a Nino original in their collection.
I think this run of Adams/Palmer Xmen art is highly regarded and coveted, and yet I think it's STILL UNDERRATED! LOL! You got a great page here. SO MUCH to take in here, as it's such a dense page with detail and values (with masterful use of zip-a-tone). Thanks for showing it to me at SDCC. Always a treat to see these masterpieces in person.
Honored to once again find myself represented in your great collection Chris! I'm proud of this cover, homage and all, more than most any other of my recent pencil and ink works. Thanks again for reaching out to make this happen so smoothly!
This is such a great looking page from the classic annual. Beautiful.
LOVE THIS! I used to own this page, but traded it away years ago like a big DUMMY! Congrats on a sweet pickup!
No, but there SHOULD be! LOL! Thanks for the kind words Duke!
Beautiful Chris.
Gorgeous! Beautiful layout and you can see the contributions of both Kirby and Wood, individual but harmonious, blending into something spectacular.
Amazing piece. These last two updates (Frankenstein and the Sienkiewicz New Mutants cover) are right in my collecting wheelhouse, so I'm a little jealous. Thought unfinshed, this Wrightson boasts figurework on the Doctor that is as good as it gets. And the inking/rendering on the Monsters cloak is to die for.
Love this. Everything from Bill during these years were magic. Truly ahead of his time artistically. And when I lived in Hawaii, I shopped at Jelly's for my comics!
Thanks Eric! Means a lot coming from someone with such an insane and well curated collection!
Beautiful piece. Not familiar with the artist or his work, but great art is great art.
Very cool Dino! This cover always struck me as being a Giordano cover than an Adams cover, but very nice either way.
Love this one Dino. The image is burned into my memory. Tom Palmers dry brush techniques on Iron Mans armor made a huge impression on me when I was 12 years old, that it's a technique that I stole and used for decades in my own inking work.
Apreciate your part in this Ron!
A true honor to have my work included in such a world class collection. Appreciate you reaching out to make this happen in such an easy and thoughful way. Thanks Chris!
Gil Kane and Neal Adams did my favorite western covers from around this era. Underappreciated and so, so good.
Such a great and memorable page. Part of the peak Starlin years.
If there's one thing I know, it's the work of my inking heroes, and this is 100% Joe Sinnott on inks. Not a trace of Janson. The good news is that Buscema and Sinnott together is a great and classic pairing!
