DescriptionAction-packed sequence from the seminal Dark Phoenix storyline, featuring the pinnacle of Claremont, Byrne and Austin's art.Great sequential storytelling on this page, with two broad horizontal group shots, and three more dramatic vertical close-up panels. Some classic Byrne touches, with slight variations on how Phoenix is depicetd, to show the alternation between cynical goddess and tormented human being. The Colossus torture scene has been done again and again by Byrne, at least on two other occasions (Invisible Woman and Scarlet Witch, if memory serves), but here it is shocking and almost unbearable to watch. And I just love Cyclops' intervention, not with force but with assertion, calling to Phoenix' human side (great script by Claremont here!). Razor sharp inks by Austin, just a marvel to behold in person. Many many thanks to Weston for agreeing to part with this gem! You are the best! You know,I'm not a John Byrne fan because it just wasn't in my childhood collecting era but this piece is incredible ! It seems to be the hot ticket for everyone to get and you got a good one Carlo,many congrats on this one !
