DescriptionIn 2014, my daughters were all out of college, independent, and mostly moved out. Kathy and I discovered that we suddenly had some free cash flow, free time, and someone to take care of the dogs and cats.It was time to party! Okay, may be not that, but it was time to do something together. We decided to take a vacation together without children - our first in a long, long time. After some discussion, we decided to checkout Heroescon. It was the first con for both of us really. I'd gone to cons in Houston in the late 60s and early 70s, but I mostly missed those due to family vacations. I went to a few in town in the late 70s / early 80s, but didn't spend much time there. After that, nothing. We got to Heroescon without issue. It was strange and wonderful full of comic stuff and artists and lots of families. Naturally, I had a few hundred dollars in my billfold when I got to the show. We started at one end of Artists' Alley and started walking up and down. Eventually, we got to Yale's table. I'd been reading JL8 for a time, but had never met Yale. I looked through the strips that he has for sale and at the print OA and decide to buy this one. I pull out my billfold and pay the man. He puts it in a sleeve and Kathy and I wander on down the line. I get somewhere and reach for my billfold (a sign vendors and artists really like) when I discover it is gone. This is 30m or so my last use! We backtrack and get to Yale's table. Before I can say a word, he says, "I have your wallet." I think he was more relieved than I was. Yay for honesty. As to the art, I liked it because Clark's pose and the use of the dove (a frequent Christian metaphor for the Holy Spirit) represented hope for the future. I like that - Yale's portrayal of Clark as hopeful is a big reason I like the strip. Yale reused this as a print and as a PC wallpaper. The Additional Images contains the print. JL8 by Yale Stewart is one of the best takes on the Justice League of America ever done. If you aren't reading it, you really should be. Click the link and get started. If you want a commission, use the Message feature on the JL8 Facebook page to drop Yale a line. Social/Sharing |

Yale's take on the characters is a breath of fresh air.
