DescriptionI don't know if you remember, but there was a time when Marvel went head to head with Disney and lost - it was over Howard the Duck's supposed resemblance to Disney's Donald Duck.I never saw it myself, but like DC's Superman vs. Fawcett's Captain Marvel, these things don't have to make sense. It occurred to me a while back that Frank Brunner's take on that situation might be interesting so I contacted him with the barest of outlines - battle in the ring featuring HtD vs. DD, Beverly as the ring girl, Daffy Duck (of Warner Bros. and, thereby, DC) as the referee. He took over from there when Kathy contacted him about doing the commission for Christmas. I'm tickled about what Frank produced. BTW, you can see the proposed redesign done by Disney on Jim Shooter's blog here. You can read Steve Gerber's thoughts on the redesign of Howard here. There are lots of other articles about the lawsuit. Click the link in this sentence to get the Google search result for marvel disney "howard the duck" "donald duck" lawsuit. P.S., I just learned (2019-12-21) that Steve Gerber stole HtD from Marvel - well, sort of. I may never see HtD in the same way again. Read more here. Social/Sharing |

A great idea and a special Christmas gift, Alex. Frank sure knows how to exceed expectations with his commissions. And as a bonus, how can you lose with Frank's version of Bev from HTD #1? Gorgeous.

I'm a Marvel guy but I'm pulling for Donald. There is no other Duck at the top of the mountain.

How did I miss this? Alex, this is absolutely fantastic. I'm not usually a big fan of commissions, but this one is so cool... Big congratulations!

Love the idea and the drama that surrounds it. Frank's work is always astounding and perfectly displayed the battle. We are waiting for round 2 ;).

As I mentioned elsewhere, one of my favorite commission pieces from last year and somehow, I failed to comment on it here. Foot meet mouth! This is just fantastic Alex, right dow to the "Hidden" Mickey holding the go Donald sign!

Good God! I thought I commented on this long ago. Jeez! It's No. 2 on my list of comic-related boxing images.
