If you have not read Cursed Pirate Girl by Jeremy Bastian,you are making a terrible mistake.

The story is fun and the art is amazing.

I'd heard of the book, but never seen it until Heroes Con 2013 when I went to visit with David Petersen of Mouse Guard fame. Jeremy's table was adjacent. While Kathy, my wife, was talking to David, I spent a little time looking at Jeremy's book - the hardcover collection of Cursed Pirate Girl.

I was amazed.

I wanted to commission Jeremy, but he's list was full. Drat! Still, I bought the book and got him to sign and sketch in it.

I read it when I got home and I was captivated by the story and art. One word of warning, the book is only one-half the story. The rest of the story (assuming Jeremy holds his current pace) should hit the stands in February 2015. I hope so! [Note: Ha! As I type, it's 2020 and at least a third of the story remains to be completed. Still, we did get a new and long chapter in 2015.]

Anyway, for Heroes Con 2104, my clear target was Jeremy. Kathy and I went straight to his table and I caught him just as he was about to walk over to visit with someone. He agreed to draw CPG for me.

I picked it up on Sunday and I was thrilled. I love the detail and CPG's body language. Kicking her foot up in the scene is typical of this young girl.

Jeremy's not fast, but if you have a chance to get a drawing or a piece of OA, go for it.

Also, get his autograph. It's the best that I've seen.

Your assessment of Jeremy's work is spot-on. I think he's one of the most talented illustrators in the world!

I completely followed your advice. When I got to Heroes 2015 I immediately went to Jeremy's table, but he wasn't doing any sketches. I was disappointed, but got nice Remarque's in two copies of Cursed Pirate Girl-and then went to the auction and bid crazy money to get the original cover to his sketchbook because I felt like I needed an original. Love your drawing and frankly, will be back again to try and get a commission someday for myself!!

Wonderful Jeremy Bastian illustration! There's something so magical in his drawings that I wonder what he dips his pen in? Magic Fairy Ink? It's got to be something pretty potent cuz his art is sheer magic!
