DescriptionI really, really want a piece of Curt Swan Legion art with a lot of Legionnaires from his Adventure run in the 1960s especially if inked by George Klein.Even his later treatments of the Legion would be fine by me, but so often the inker was "heavy" on Curt's pencils. While at the Boston Comic Con in 2012, I saw page 17 of The Legion of Super-Heroes 306 up close and personal in Anthony Snyder's booth and I was sold. It's a recap of the story in Adventure #342 where Star Boy kills. It has the traits that I love in Curt's art, e.g., distinct faces and clean lines. I'm thrilled. So, time passes.... My permanent ebay search on "Swan Legion" reports a hit, I check it and it turns out to be the next and final page of the flashback. It features several Legionnaires and it's affordable (as comic art goes anyway). I debated a little bit, but Kathy, the Wonder Wife, says, "You want it, your birthday is soon, and I don't have a present for you." How can I argue with that logic? So, I paid the Buy It Now and received the art in short order. Of course, that meant that I couldn't actually hold it until my birthday party which we had last night (6/12/15). It's pretty great. Between these two pages I have Swan images of one of the most famous scenes in Legion history and a fair number of Legionnaires:
BTW, If you like Curt Swan's work, you will probably enjoy: 1) My LSH commission 2) My Superman Commission Also, Edmond Hamilton wrote some of my favorite Legion stories including Adventure Comics 342 which these two page recap. As it happens, he also wrote the first science fiction book that I ever read, City at World's End (1951). Social/Sharing |

When this came out, it was: Old school (Swan) meets new school (Mahlstedt). Always interesting to see these odd combinations of pencillers and inkers who don't normally work together.

That is a heavy page, man. Congrats on finding a nice latter-day Swan page that evokes his classic era. I think the inker is often the key when separating an average Swan page from a good one and it is kind of cool to see him teamed up with a fellow Legion veteran like Mahlstedt.

I can see why you like this page so much. Swan revisiting traditional Legion lore is a quite the treat.

Congratulations Alex! Any Swan Legion page is a prize! Two consecutive pages is a bonus! And two pages re-presenting a classic Legion story is a triple threat!

This is a nice pair of pages. Agreed, the collaboration between Swan and Mahlstedt is really nice.
