Description

I had this done last year for the birth of my son on February 1, 2008. I wanted to do something that I would enjoy and that would remind me of this event. I wish that I had done this with my daugter in 2005 as well. I figure this to be a good way to commemorate special events in my life. This started as two separate 2 figure pieces with the Hawks to be in one and Green Lantern and Sandman to be in the other. The first draft came back in this configuration from Jose and I just loved it. The odd part about the first prelim (and I wish I still had that scan) was that when I mentioned the Justice Society and Sandman I ended up with the Vertigo version of Sandman - looked quite interested but out of place. I always wanted a piece that was classic sandman and I think Jose captured it well here. We had a hard time with his mask as over the years it was drawn in so many different ways. We ended up using reference from a gas mask used by some of the eastern european armies and it turned out well.
