Description

Having been a huge fan of Smitty's work for nearly 30 years now, I tend to follow him around to whatever project he's working on. His latest one is one I'm actually very glad to see. Having also been a great fan of Dave Stevens, and his wonderful creation The Rocketeer, I will forever be disappointed by the fact that I never got a chance to meet him. So to see an artist whose work I love working on that character is fantastic. I purchased this page, the first of the only issue of the series Smitty worked on, directly from the man himself at his newly created website (paulmartinsmith.com). Couldn't pass it up for the price! I enjoy seeing artist's architectural work. I also enjoy little touches like the fact that he's hand lettered the page number, and that he's called the book Sprockets.

That's probably the reason I bought this page! If you look really closely in that panel, you can see the blue lines going from lower right towards upper left that Smitty used to keep the perspectives in order. That kind of attention to detail I really admire, and it shows a great work ethic and desire to do the job right. And I love looking at a snow covered city, reminding me of why I no longer live in one.

I enjoy the quiet scene-setting moments. They're as vital as anything else. And there's as much drawing ability on display here as on the "big" pages too. I'm happy!
