DescriptionI had the pleasure of meeting Brian for the first time during the Facts 2024 fall edition. He was my main and only attractions among the artists invited for various reasons (rates, taste, personalities…) so I basically spent two very interesting days talking art, comics, movies and storytelling with the sensei.Upon being presented deluxe and rare editions of his works, Brian spontaneously stood from his chair and drew remarks of various artistic quality (quick or not) in them. For free. I’m told he was really looking forward to this particular con/meeting his European fans and yet, at a stage in our hobby where everything and anything get monetized, these gifts he kept bestowing to his fans truly stand out, especially given his stature in the comic industry. Done inside his rare artbook published by Boom, this Psylocke is simply fantastic. She is Asian, she is proud and defiant, looking at the reader and/or adversity right in the eye. (I can’t help but see that she is giving the middle finger with her psy-blade here). Watching Brian draw these standing up, super focused, was simply amazing. An unparalleled artist, master storyteller (which I knew) all rolled in a class act (which I suspected but has been confirmed). Thank you Maestro :) Social/Sharing |

From Cycops to Psylocke for Stelfreeze. A stunner. I really prefer this kind of pen-and-ink piece work from him rather than his color work. The color/painted pieces are nice but there's a real boldness to his line here that's not always present in the colored/painted pieces.

I would tend to agree with that in the sense that the pen/ink/marker stuff seems more spontaneous whereas the color work seems more refined but having seen him work live I'm not sure it's not all super controlled anyway :)
Another BUT is that where I usually don't respond so much to painted work in comics (especially if it's related to storytelling), Brian's painted technique, color palette and just plain color theory is just so sophisticated (and unique) I just love it. One of the very few in that category for me.

Loved reading the story, even when I was there. Happy to have spent the day together!

Looks so well designed too with it being done on the spot. Not just any standard drawing as Stelfreeze adds the defiant look to Psylocke!

Very nice of Brian to create this fabulous piece inside your book for free! You Europeans DO benefit from the fact that is has always been cistom for artists to draw sketches with no expectation of payment, however, and most American artist are aware of this, so peopole at cons in Europe stand a far better likelihood of getting stuff like this done than at American conventions. It certainly is nice to see this still happen from time to time, giving us older fans a reminder of how things once used to be!

That entire experience sounds incredible from your story in the description. A nice sketch too but those memories are priceless! Congrats!!

Sounds like a great time with this artist and a wonderful memento to remember it. Beautifully done Psylocke nonetheless.
