DescriptionJim Aparo Classic Batman commissionUpdated 5/23/13: Hi all, here's some more info to clear this up. As I mentioned, this piece came from a very well respected art dealer, it came to him from a friend of Jim Aparo, here's his comments: "I got this from a collector who is a family friend of Jim Aparo, he was given this piece by Aparo. Because it was a gift he doesn't want his name out, Jim just gave him the piece along with outher items through the years. I believe the piece is real, from where it came from, and no matter what I say someone will always have a different opinion." I agree, this piece is a recreation of the classic Garcia-Lopez style guide (that's what the style guide was INTENDED for, after all, to keep things consistent), and I agree on first look it is definitely taken from that pose, but since I ALSO owned that original piece, when compared side by side you can DEFINITELY see it's not an exact copy line for line, and definitely has some Jim Aparo touches to it (Aparo could CERTAINLY follow a style guide and add his own nuances, after all!). For example, on the Aparo piece, you can see differences in the facial features,a slightly different angle overall, right hand directly on the belt, left forearm completely showing,a less pronounced chest than the JLGL version, the cape flow is a lot different as is the inking, the legs are spread further apart...the head is definitely Aparo rather than Garcia Lopez. Trust me, I have plenty of Aparo art, and pieces directly from him as well for comparison, I have no doubt this was created by him, as well as the provenance to back it up, as well as his signature. Here's a scan or the Garcia Lopez version in Mike D.'s CAF for comparison, see the differences for yourself: http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=971952 I hope that helps clear up confusion and explain things. This piece is NOT an Aparo piece. I saw it on EBAY a few months ago and had Jim's art dealer check it out....this is NOT an Aparo piece. Based on the signature alone you can tell it is not Jim. MPH

Hi Matthew, I believe you're mistaken. If you saw this on Ebay a few months ago then THAT piece was a fake perhaps, since I've had this piece over a year and bought it from a well respected dealer. The original design was from the Batman style guide, which was done by Garcia Lopez...that part I'd agree isn't Aparo. Holding the piece in my hands I'd say I'm pretty certian it's Aparo, as well as the signature, which matches many others I have from him. I will investigate further, but pretty sure this piece is legit...thanks for the note, email me if you want to discuss more. Jeff

I agree, with is Jose Luis Garcia Lopez, no matter who signed it.
