Description

This is the second to last drawing of Maleficent from the great 1959 Disney feature film. Sleeping Beauty. Unfortunatley, Maleficent just couldn't keep up her cool appearance all the way until the end of the movie -- she just had to reveal her true vulgar nature by resorting to profanities when it looked like she might not get things her own way. And, boy, is she pompous behind that elegant, but thin, veneer -- "And now shall you deal with me, Oh Prince, and all the powers of HELL!" Oh come on, she's just a witch. The HE of the word HELL, written in the upper right corner, indicates that this drawing corresponds with the begining sound of that bad word. In the final drawing the LL is underlined. While the last drawing is an animator's extreme, it is more loosely and heavily drawn. This is one of the rare instances where I actually like this in-between drawing a little more than the almost identical extreme, since it is a bit cleaner and more refined in its line. The effect drawing of flames was behind the drawing of Maleficent when this photograph was taken, and it can barely be seen through the upper drawing.
