DescriptionI bumped into Tim Dzon at the Capital Associates Comic Show, which was his first time back behind the tables in a long time! I knew Tim was a DC-area resident, but had never met him. He's just now thinking about trying to break back into the biz. I gambled that, because the show didn't get a ton of lead-time on promoting his appearance, he wouldn't have a ton of folks at his table, so I grabbed an unbelievable number of books to get signed. I'm almost NEVER that guy, and would have just picked a handful for him to sign if that hadn't been the case, but my gambit worked out (another guy showed up when he had about 2 books to go from my ginormous stack), and the good news was he said he LOVED signing his old comics, so everything worked out very well. What was really impressive was, as he was picking through the pile of West Coast Avengers and Fantastic Four Unlimited and Iron Man and New Warriors, etc. etc., he was able to remember each issue he'd worked on (I think there was only 1 he had to check to make sure he had a credit, and it was a partial credit on Spider-Man Unlimited), and he was able to tell tales about the issues, the artists, the politics at Marvel at the time, the techniques used at the time, all kinds of fascinating stuff! I was very happy with the way this Hulk sketch came out as well -- it started as rough pencils, turned into rough ink outlines, and really developed amazingly as he added more and more details! Plus, the Kirby Crackle he added certainly gave it a great deal of character after the fact! I'm looking forward to bumping into Tim again and having him sign the 10-20 issues I didn't drag along this time!Social/Sharing |
