Description

At the age 13 or 14, I was already a fan of Harvey Kurtzman and the comic book version of MAD. One day I found out that Kitchen Sink had published a hardcover reprint of Kurtzman's Jungle Book - which simply overwhelmed me when it arrived. Its effective artwork and dialogue is matched by very few works in the history of comic art, and one of the pages that stayed with me from the very first time I read this classic, was page 19. The gag and phrase "It means like you're standing on my flippers, baby!", wonderfully captures the hardboiled humor in the first Thelonius Violence episode of the book. Jump forward 25+ years and suddenly - there it is - that page, the original for page 19, for sale. Simply put: I have one less grail to hunt down!

these are really great pages! Kurtzman, strangly enough, still seems to be underappreciated except by hardcore fans and comic history buffs. He really is one of the great innovators, congratulations!
