Gilbert Hernandez: Khamo and the Kids

Woooow, this has got to be the familiy portrait of familiy portraits: Luba's husband Khamo, scarred for life by fire while he tried to save a girl from burning herself to death, surrounded by nearly all Luba's children.

This was used in the 1991 Fantagraphics calendar for the month of August

From left to right we have:

The second oldest daughter Guadalupe, and my personal favorite of all Gilbert's women,
holding the youngest daughter Conchita.

Khamo has his arm wrapped around one-armed and very self-secure Casimira. Next to her is Socorro holding Joselito and finally standing next to Khamo is the curlyhaired stronghead Doralis, who'll eventually die of cancer.

The only daughter missing is the oldest daughter Maricella, who Luba alienates right from Maricellas early teenage years.

I see this sketch is dated 1990. That's interesting because Palomar didn't appear in Love and Rockets at all between issues 26 (1988) and 37 (1992). So this might be the first illustration of Khamo and Casimira after their accidents, as well as the first illustration of Socorro, Joselito and Conchita.
