DescriptionThe Silver Age Flash first appeared in Showcase #4. I’ve discussed Showcase before, but it was essentially a tryout book of sorts. A character would get a few issue test, and if sales supported it, their own title. Even though the name “The Flash” had been around since 1940, the comic had stopped being published in 1949 with issue #104. By the Mid 1950’s DC thought it was time to re-start the character. So, in 1956, Barry Allen was introduced in Showcase. Even though the name, “The Flash”, was the same, the alter-ego, costume, origin, and supporting characters were all different. Written by John Broome, and drawn by Carmine Infantino, the newly created Barry Allen revived the Flash. After the 4 issues of Showcase, Flash returned to his own book, beginning with issue # 105, thus continuing the original numbering from 1940.

Excellent! I had my eye on this splash, as did others I know. Congrats on a sweet pickup.

A really classic Silver Age splash right here. I thought this was one of the finest pieces offered. Very nice eye Ron!

I was also following this page during the recent auction and I'm glad to see that it found a good home with a fan rather than being purchased by some dealer for resale. This was the first issue of Flash that I ever owned and the splash page with Captain Boomerang, the Elongated Man and the Flash is a triple treat for my eyes. Congratulations.

One of the gems from the auction, and, in my opinion, nicer than the #124 cover.

Great pick-up Ron! I was thinking very seriously of going hard after this one myself...glad I didn't as it looks at home in your collection. I like it better than the Flash 117 cover from the same auction.

What a great splash! And to have the letter from Julie Schwartz to go along with it is just priceless! An outsanding acquisition. Congrats!

I didn't realize you picked up this beauty. I have to agree with everyone else by saying I prefer the splash artistically better than the cover. It certainly was the better buy. Congratulations on another gem in your collection. Cheers! N.

Absolutely perfect example of Infantino (and DC) Silver Age greatness. Congrats, Ron!
