Description

Here is a real grail piece for me, the finished preliminary to Frazetta's PELLUCIDAR. This incredible gem was executed in pencil, watercolor, and I believe gesso, and is very close indeed to the finished painting. The shading and blending have to be seen in person to be believed. In this one piece, Frazetta created a genre that many lessor artists have spent entire careers in poor imitation... the overdone 'nude jungle girl with dangerous animal' phenomenon that's still so popular... In the hands of master Frazetta, however, the ever fresh work is anything but cliched, and as appealing as the subject matter is, this genre is but one aspect of his varied imagination...this piece ultimately remains a superbly timeless, original work. 6 x 9", signed...ex- collection Doc Dave Winiewicz ... thanks Dave.

A flawless integration of artistic elements and some of the greatest color-blending Frank ever did on a rough. The original just sparkles with quality. The image on the computer monitor doesn't do justice to the subtle nuances of this piece. I enjoyed this original for many years. It was time to give it to a new home where it could live with other impressive originals. A gem!
