DescriptionPieces like this speak for themselves. My favorite BWS painting, and one of the few he did in oil. Published as a print, and also as a cover. I reframed it. The back of the art has written in Barry's hand, 'self portrait'. It represents the fall of Icarus due to his going too close to the sun, against his father's instructions-- pride-- which copies the biblical fall of Lucifer because of similar pride and disobedience to the Father. A deeply moving allegorical work, complex and detailed in its execution. 1979-1980, oil on board.Social/Sharing |

Absolutely stunning. The only BWS piece I own is a prelim to the image of Icarus and I consider that one my best... This is great :)

BWS at the very best of his Pre-Raphaelite period, thanks for sharing this masterpiece!

I can only imagine what a wonder it is to stand infront of this masterpiece and admire it in person. Beautiful.

As if your "Age Of Innocence" and "Artemis & Apollo" paintings weren't enough, you had to go and throw THIS up! I've been very lucky to acquire all the art I own, but when I see a collection like yours, it almost makes me feel like I've been wasting my time and money for the last 30 years!

Was just thinking "wonder what Rob is up to" and I find Icarus. The results would seem almost beyond even the considerable talents of BWS. Perhaps a miracle? Really extraordinary painting Rob. You must be thrilled.

You must have to stop and look at this for an hour every time you walk by it. How do you ever get anything done? ;]

It took me a while (a few years) to get the print, wich does not show up that often, especially in good condition. But THIS.... I have no words for it. Congrats, you have done everything right! ;-)
