DescriptionI really love Seth's art, and in my mad fury to read everything I could of his, I stumbled upon a 2 book arc he did in Doom Patrol. I'd heard of Doom Patrol...mostly as the Marvel comic and then a little as the DC one. But I had no idea they were currently making one, let alone anything it was about! No idea on the characters, history, etc.Well, I read these books and was in love with the art and story. It was gorgeous!! Seth chose insanely complicated surroundings to set everything in, and you could just tell this was a blast to draw:) It was consistently a step above in it's thoroughness and quality and really *feels* like a real world, fully realized, living inside of paper. No knock to the writing, which was top notch and had a great plot, but to me this is a story that would have been a footnote with any other artist on it. This page in particular was one that just really struck me...the room with the plans...intricately drawn out, miscellaneous tools and instruments littered about or holding it open...and all set within a wonderfully old fashioned room with antique furniture and a wonderfully paneled floor. In other hands, this coulda been handled much differently. But to me this is one of those pages that really shows off some talent. It's wonderfully composed, with the central image being at, well, the center, of a top down view, with everything else being there to accentuate it and enliven it. No corners are cut, no important element left out for convenience. It is just wonderfully well executed. It took me a couple of weeks of hemming and hawing between this page and another from the book, but in the end, this was just something I hadn't seen before in comics. Social/Sharing |

There's some really great detail, and fantastic layouts & storytelling, on this one.
