Description

Wallace Wood: The Wizard King Trilogy, Vol 2, Story Page 12 (1981).
A late-in-life masterwork from the comics' great creator of fantasy-adventure epics. Wood's Wizard King project had met with one false start after another en route to the artist's final resort to self-publishing as a method of avoiding corporate obstacles and editorial interference. Those pages that found their way through Wood's painstaking creative process prove him as thoroughly in command of his artistry as ever, despite the distractions of necessary commercial assignments and failing health. Ink and Zipatone shading film over graphite and blue pencil on Bristol board. Image area, 12.25" x 16". Some paste-in seams, marginal staining, Zip-yellowing, and white-paint retouching.

Even at the dismal end, Wood was making with the cool one-liners. :-D

I always enjoyed his writing, almost as much as I enjoyed his art. Congrats on the new Woodworks, Lars!
