Maybe there's a story behind the acquisition of this great cover ?Frederic, I posted the abbreviated story on ComicArt-L yesterday, as follows: Special thanks to my long-time friends, Joe and Nadia Mannarino. Lucky for me they are such terrific parents; they had just decided to buy their son and daughter a brownstone (!), so they contacted me after seeing the message string below, and sold me this little group of goodies, among others: http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerynew.asp?GCat=25305 As usual, Joe and Nadia were absolutely delightful to deal with -- I can't recommend them highly enough. Please enjoy! Jim Halperin www.HA.com

With the Silver Surfer # 1 cover already in your gallery, this is probably the most iconic 1968 cover and of course one the best by Big John. One little question, is it small or was it still large size ? Anyway this truly a gem James, Congratulations !

Holy Moley! I can vividally remember buying Sub-Mariner #1 & Ironman #1. Off the local mom & pop soda shop/drug store off the spinner rack. AAAhhh memories! It seems like yesterday & a million years ago at the same time. Huge Congrads! Both had such iconic & beautiful covers by two of comics great masters. Big John & Gentleman Gene!

I would say this is up there with Iron Man 1 and Giant Size X-men 1 as the three most historic marvel covers on CAF. Congrats and thanks for posting it!

What strikes me the most on this cover is the homeless period of Namor. He went from monarch to being part of the Invaders team to years of loneliness. And even if he occasionally rises again, he has lost everything more than once.

One of my absolute favorite comic covers from my childhood. When I was about 12-13, I decided I wanted a poster of this. Since I couldn't find one to buy, I made my own. I taped 8 pieces of blank typewriter paper together and just drew it freehand. Just the main image, none of the background figures. Came out prelty good too, if I do say so myself. Wish I had kept the damn thing. Anyway, what a tremendous privilege it must be to be able to hold and see this in person. I congratulate you on your good forture. May it bring you a lifetime of joy.
