DescriptionThis piece is from May 1983, a full year before Bill Sienkiewicz started his legendary run on New Mutants, the one that changed comics forever. Already making waves and stirring up controversy in the comic world, Bill was assigned to create some pin-ups for the back of Marvel Fanfare. I no longer have the comic but there were 4 to 6 pin-ups done including Shanna (see that in my CAF elsewhere...my holy grail), Dr. Strange, Dazzler and Thor. I have seen a Hulk piece as well but not sure if that was part of this set. Regardless, Bill was already showing us the future of his work and the furute of comics in these pieces. This is one of my San Diego acquisitions this year (my first year at the con) and it comes courtesy of a very easy and amicable deal with the Donnelly brothers. We had been talking about this piece for the better part of a decade but it never came together until now. I have owned the Shanna piece for almost 20 years now and I have owned the color guides for both this piece and the Shanna piece for almost as long. This piece was meant for only one collection and it is now here where it will stay. You will note the skates at the bottom right go beyond the edges of the art board. This is how the board was cut and not an add on piece. The board is taller than normal art board and had to be scanned in 2 parts to get the skates in the image. Social/Sharing |

Another absolute classic Sienkiewicz pinup from the same Fanfare issue as the Shanna pinup? Wow, nice job!
