Description

In addition to being a great artist, Finlay was a poet. Here's a piece he did in a sketchbook around 1934, illustrating a poem he wrote, called "Education of a Faun." From another sketchbook, I've also scanned a prelim of the faun.

The lines on the leg are a different effect from his normally thin line and stipple work. It looks great even with the little bit there is. The inky spray is very well controlled. Without the name and poem, we would not know this is a faun as most of the leg is covered.
