DescriptionOriginal art for the splash page to the story "What Price Love" published in Vampirella 25 by Jose Gonzalez, circa 1973. The splash is rendered in graphite, ink and ink wash on a 14" x 20" art board. "The Vampirella Artist" creates another tour de force image featuring the Daughter of Drakulon! "This chick's a strong mother" (Shut your mouth)!Social/Sharing |

I know nothing about Vampy but I love everything about this page! Truly gorgeous. The tonal work and fine hand with the inks make the image pop in all the right ways. Congrats!

Agreed! You said exactly what I was thinking but didn't know how to communicate.

Stunning! But, then, Gonzalez Vampi art always is breathtaking. Congrats on a major art acquisition.

Is it a good idea to drug a vamp? Guess we'll see!

The wash is masterfully done to push Vampi into the movie spotlight that makes her more glamorous.

GREAT splash---I remember when it went up for grabs. Great purchase---and I think I know a little bit about Vampi art....

"This chick's a strong mother" (Shut your mouth)!"
The cultural influence of Shaft reaches the furthest corners of all mediums. I recall an episode of The X-Files, also centering around vampirism...
Warren knew how to make a bloodthirsty vampire into a sympathetic figure. Step one, make them look like Vampirella. Step two, get guys like Jose Gonzalez and Gonzalo Mayo to draw her. Step three, print them in luscious black and white like the page shown above.
Gorgeous ink wash page with the eternally sexy Vampirella turning those guys into nothing more visually important than their own shadows on the wall.
