DescriptionThis was supposed to be a "con sketch" featuring Daredevil and Mysterio, and as you can clearly see, it became so much more than that. What I love about this piece is that it shows off John's innate knack for giving you something that exceeds expectations and defies standard comic conventions. There is so very much to love about the compositional wizardry on display here, so in the interest of brevity, I'll just say that John has managed to create one of my all-time favorite Daredevil commissions with nothing more than a simple request to feature two of my favorite characters (from a visual perspective) in a single madcap scenario. John's a unique voice and a master at taking classic characters and concepts and infusing them with KIirby-like energy in Ditko-esque hyper-realities. I love it, Sir John! Mysterio never looked so cool nor so macabre, and that background is something straight out of the Twilight Zone. Kudos!A whoppin' 14X17 inches! Social/Sharing |

Great stuff! Love the Mysterio - I never dug his original design, this is an awesome upgrade! :)

Wow Matt, this is really something special!!! I love DD's rogue gallery coming after him and the hero's facial expression. Really really nice, bud. Congrats.

I'm a little partial to the Spidey villains, but the rest ain't too shabby either ;) Outstanding pick-up.

Wow so much to look at. Mysterio looks positively evil!! What a touch. So much going on with so many twists on classic characters.

I love the greyscale DD in the upper right corner! I interpret John's use of that storytelling device to mean that this nightmarish scenario has been concocted by Mysterio to play out inside Matt's head. It's a small detail in this large piece FILLED with great details, but it is perfectly positioned to make the viewer read the composition like a story! What a great piece of art!
