Description

A gift from Nick. He had this among a stack of old DC paper. Old prelim with a modern signature.

Back in the day, Nick worked from thumbnails. Unfortunately, he no longer has any of them. They were probably awesome. From other work I've seen, Nick would also lightbox tracing paper prelims. He still does. I have to guess this might have been composed of a bunch of tracings, there don't seem to be any sketch lines.

This is how the prelim differs from the published version:

Speedy and Kid Flash are posed a little differently and moved further apart. Nick was conscious of how the red in their costumes were overlapping in the prelim. This would have created a big red mass on the cover. Actually, all the Teen Titans have red as a common color, so Nick was always careful to avoid this problem. Check out those comics for yourselves, you kids!!!
Robin (drawn very lightly in the prelim) is more in the foreground in the published version.
The ski jump is more in the background in the published version.
Overall, the published cover "zooms in" on the scene. All the figures are bigger.

I have always loved this cover. Wow what a Holy Grail of a prelim. I am very jealous. Congrat.
