DescriptionIt’s a belated gift for my friend, Marc Nathan.Here's a funny story. Marc Nathan is a huge Carl Barks fan. When I first met him, he asked me for a Donald Duck sketch. I drew a quick crappy sketch on a piece of paper and forgot about it. Over the years, we became close friends. (He helped me out many times, going the extra mile every time.) I had the opportunity to see his Donald Duck art collection that he has amassed over the years. Of all the Donald Duck art in that collection, my quick sketch was one of the worst. Embrassed and feeling guilty, I decided to do another Donald Duck art for him. One of his wish was to own a Donald Duck oil painting by Carl Barks. Since he couldn’t afford one, I painted one for him. I'm giving it to him this weekend. ( Marc's also a big Superman fan, I hope he doesn't cry like a pansy when he gets the painting.) It’s on a monster canvas, 36” x 48”. Social/Sharing |

Me too!! The prelim of this painting was shown at the page 70 of the Modern Masters vol 14 published by Twomorrows showcased on Cho.

I don't know Marc; but it wouldn't surprise me if he does "cry like a pansy." This is phenomenal!! Thanks for sharing it here!

Frank, you are a class act! Thank you for sharing this story. It's always nice to hear when an artist is not only amazing at his/her craft, but equally stellar as a person. It makes the pieces I own of yours that much more special to me now. Congrats to you Frank.

I saw this in the background of your photo for the "about the artist" caption of Women. I was wondering what was up with it! Great take on a classic!

Moral of the story? If an artist hands you a crappy Donald Duck sketch, just take it and say thank you, because you never know, someday he may just give you a beautiful GI-normous oil painting out of guilt and embarrassment! LOL! Truly stunning Frank!

Marc, that's not what friends are for...but what a fantastic way to show gratitude and friendship :-)...If Marc is married I bet his wife will love it also and forgive Marc for all the money spent on comics over the years :) Congratulation to Frank for his art and friendship (hope you come to Portugal one of this years)
