Description

This was a Star Wars #1 store variant cover featuring Slave Leia for Cards Comics and Collectibles comic shop in Baltimore. I drew it and started inking it thinking it's going to get approved right away.

Well, I shouldn't have jumped the gun. This Star Wars #1 cover was rejected because it had Slave Leia on it. Lucas/Disney people didn't want Slave Leia on the cover (and all Star Wars female characters needed to be fully clothed). I was surprised by the rejection, but the decision made sense since they were pushing Star Wars to be a family friendly franchise.

Even though this Slave Leia cover was rejected, I decided to finish it.

Luke and Han Solo were drawn with a ballpoint pen to give the background images a nice contrast against the foreground image.

This original art is for sale at my booth in San Diego Comicon. (Booth 4901)

Can I still blame Lucas for why this wasn't published? Personally, I would have been more concerned with the word 'no' being so prominent if I were the editor in chief. Han shot first.
