DescriptionA piece I pursued for ages but couldn't quite make a deal come to fruition. Then it finally happened...success!One of Jack's last efforts before he left Marvel in Mar. 1970. Hard to believe this cover was REJECTED for publication. Reportedly Stan Lee felt it lacked action so artist Marie Severin was instructed to redraw it. Her version is attached here. Social/Sharing |

Congrats Hans! I know you love this piece. Reminds me so much of me,Marcus,Richard,Kevin and Rich kneeling to Albert. Only Albert's horns are longer.

LOL!! Albert tells me he trims them but they keep growing back twice as long! :)

Twice as good as the published cover -- a very strong Kriby effort -- look at that drama. Congrats on puling that one out after that good long chase. A beauty!!!

Interesting cover, Verpoorten’s inks work well on Kirby!

The decisions of Marvel production makes no sense to me in this particular case. Congrats on finally acquiring this Hans!!!! Great piece.

I know I've already left a comment on this one, but it popped up as 'featured' today for me. And, it's so damn good that I just feel compelled to comment on it again! Can't believe this beauty is a rejected cover...does not seem possible!

A great(er) cover than the published version Hans. It is interesting that the apparent floor sheen lines are not drawn in perspective, just perpendicular to the horizon; not distracting, but interesting nonetheless. Presumably the inking purely followed Kirby's graphic intent.
