DescriptionIn his search for the abductor of Lady Dorma, Sub-Mariner fights Iron Man but then abandons the fray when he spots the battle cruiser of his enemy, Warlord Krang!Until now, artist Jack Kirby had never given Namor his full stamp in a solo story. Then regular Subby artist Gene Colan took sick and "The King" stepped in to finish one chapter + pencil a second. Kirby completed 22 pgs. in a weekend, a testament not only to his speed but the quality and genius of his work. This is Kirby's only existing p.1 splash from a Subby solo story. Social/Sharing |

I have always loved the completely Kirbyesque choice to have dual perspectives going on -- and then to just casually have the knuckles of Subby's hand fuck with the whole thing because it's Jack Kirby doing it.

It IS adorable, though I suspect The Knuckle Anachronism (also the name of my band in the mid-90's) was a result of Ayers not quite paying attention.

The obvious answer is when Krang activated his cloaking device he also triggered his holographic visual screen that projects 3-D images of Subby through the skin of his ship . Didn't you know it's standard equipment on all imperial sea-cruisers?! :)

Love these older title splashes! Big bold lettering as well as a big bold shot of Namor here! Very nice, indeed. Congrats!
