DescriptionThere's a story here. I could give a bunch of reasons why I don't have the money to get sketches from every artist I'd like to, but the bottom line is, I don't. There are a lot of artists who charge around $100 for a head sketch (Mr. Suydam included), and although I don't dispute whether or not the art is worth it, I still can't afford it. I had dealt with Mr. Suydam on the first day of the con and he was very kind to me and signed some comics, a statue, and the sketchbook I purchased from him. On the last day of the con a good number of the artists were leaving early to catch flights. I saw Arthur leave, and even told him goodbye. Quite some time after I saw him go, I was looking through all of the vendor booths for a Wonder Woman action figure for my oldest daughter. Arthur's table was located near some of the retail areas, and as I walked by where he had been sitting, I glanced down and the above is what I saw drawn on the plastic table covering there. I *ran* to find one of the officials for the con and when I did, asked them what would become of it. The lady I spoke to went and found one of the main guys in charge, and he told me I could have it. I *ran* back, put a piece of 9x12 bristol paper over the art and carefully cut around it then placed it over the paper and put it in my portfolio. So there you go, a piece that Arthur Suydam pretty much did for his own amusement (sometimes referred to as a "table doodle") - the kind of thing they usually auction at many cons..and through incredible fortune it has found its way into my collection.Social/Sharing |

Nice art... and a really great story behind your acquiring it! Not many can claim to have an Arthur Suydam sketch on a tablecloth :)

Reminds me of when my kids were younger and we "Had" to attend Family weddings and parties, I would often encourage the kids to draw on knapkins and table clothes or anything we could find. Atleast it stopped them asking... can we go now for a few seconds. Thanks for Sharing
