Thanks very much! This was one of the few times in life where ignorance paid off. I loved the character from classic Disney tv and remembered he had appeared on at least one episode of the Ducktales cartoon, but didn't know that he was practically non-existent in the Carl Barks and Don Rosa duck universe. I've only ever seen a couple of these and as I said in the description, Don told me this was the first he'd done. Your collection is absolutely amazing! I was glad to take a look! Thanks for commenting.
Did you commission Marie directly for this? Was the scenario here her idea or yours? Would you accept a kidney in trade for this?
Sorry it took so long to respond! We did indeed. Very thankful to all of the artists who were so kind and generous to us. The kids really enjoyed it and have been reading their comics daily since then. I'm gonna have to go frame shopping!
Yeah, Budd really nailed it. He said something to the effect of: "I'm not always confident with likenesses, but I think I managed to catch her". I agree. I wish I could find that pic you're talking about, I can hardly find anything from the event.
John, thanks for stoppin in at the gallery and adding some kind words. The best part about you doing so is that it caused me to head to yours in turn, where I was treated with this piece, which is phenomenal! I'm a big fan of the Boris and Natasha piece also. You're doing great work, sir!
Thanks for the kind words on my gallery - although it pales in comparison to yours! I really dig the coffee theme and am especially jealous over the Dave Cockrum pieces and the John Lucas piece. I'm sad to say I never had the good fortune to meet Mr. Cockrum, and I've been talking with John about a cereal piece for months now but haven't been able to go ahead with it up to this point. Anyway, thanks again - great collection!
I'll take that commission, but only if the orphans stay crunchy in oil! Great work man, love the attention to detail. Be sure to check out the Herb Trimpe stuff I just posted when you get a chance!
Thank you for posting this here, I'm not sure how much monetary value the print itself may hold, but I could've made a fairly costly mistake on Ebay if I hadn't seen this. http://cgi.ebay.com/comic-con-art_W0QQitemZ320263119680QQihZ011QQcategoryZ972QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem For as long as it's valid, check out this auction listing. The listing is so vague, I figured it was too good to be true and that it had to be a print or even a forgery, but my imagination kept telling me that maybe it came from an estate sale or a grandparent's attic or something of that nature. Seeing exactly the same piece here really drove home the idea that I was dreaming hehe.
Not to mention the fact that *your* site is referenced on *his* site as the authority on *his* artwork hehe. That's quite an honor and a testament to your dedication, I'd say!
Wow, I didn't know Don did colors too..and in fact is quite skilled at doing so. Nice piece!
Damn that's sweet. The art is fantastic as usual, and your lettering is top notch. That's bound to be a highlight of the collection for the person who commissioned it with you. I didn't know you worked on the giant, is that the same one with Superbaby in the microwave?
Fabulous job! If we ever meet up I'm going to ask you for a Vault Keeper eating cereal to go w/ the Crypt Keeper in my collection. Keep up the good work!
That's awesome man. What a great piece. You add such a sense of style and character to each thing you do. You're the number one guy on my list for AdventureCon, and if I don't make it on Friday, I'll be the first person in front of your table on Saturday. Take care!
Prints are now available at ETSY here: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5537573 (as well as plenty of comic inspired goodies). Giddy up!
This piece is craaazy. I've been wanting a Sue for a while now, and since I saw yours a few weeks ago, I just keep thinking about it and how I hope I can score one that's anywhere near as sweet. Btw, thanks for the kind words on my Red Skull and the theme in general, I hope to someday have a collection that's a 10th as amazing as yours!
Really dig the style of this one. If you whited out the bride and grooms eyes, this would take on a whole other meaning.. give it an exorcism vibe..it's borderline creepy just how little of the brides pupils you can see as it is. Please don't take that as a knock, I think it's great!
Hail to the Potentate! You know, if you had this one plus Lugosi, Cheney, and Karloff all in similar poses, it would make one hell of a sweet barbershop quartet. Sweet piece man! I love it! You might want to check out this guy too: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5537573 Take it easy! Dan
