Description(Obtained at the Stripbeurs Breda Netherlands, 2011)There wouldn't be many artists or creators as capable of presenting graphic art as enticingly and illustratively as Gary Gianni, famous for his MonsterMen, Batman: Black & White, The Shadow, 20.000 Leagues Under the Sea, as well as being the current artist on the Prince Valiant Sunday strip, besides doing various book illustrations, among which Conan and Solomon Kane. I love how in this preliminary pencil page thé Dark Knight of Crimefighting gets to be depicted so pluriformly, while a monomaniacal scientist unveils his dark ploys proving powerless against the Inverness-caped crusader his interrogations, via not only his baleful stair, but also his mysterious mindpossessing "girasol ring". This page would make it to the final book almost completely, save for getting split up into two pages, starting the fourth and final part, with saving the captivating fluency of the imagery, as this page already depicts. Like for instance how the scientist with The Shadow's shadow upon him, remains visible through the hole in the floor or either ceiling, while divulging how an intruder would come to ransack and wreck his lab, as made visible within the same panel - until a following panel grants a zoomed look onto the same scientist amid his wrecked lab - for then to present both the scientist and The Shadow appreciating the patched up lab both as the invention, initially meant as a tool of peace, although governments would only pay for it as being a weapon, fueled on precious stones, leaving the genius to be needing the money as much as the next guy...
